When was the last time you played a game of leap-frog? Or climbed a tree? Or explored your city, discovering landmarks that you never knew existed? Well, we did all of those things, and much more, when we competed in Adventure Hunt in Orlando.
Not only do we enjoy trying new things, we are also up for a challenge and LOVE games, so when we first heard about Adventure Hunt, of course we were interested. After doing some research, we learned that it was a city-wide competition that was part Amazing Race and part scavenger hunt. After finding out that Adventure Hunt was hosting a Treasure Hunt in Orlando, we immediately signed up! What a great way to spend a day, driving/running all over a city we love to explore. And better yet, we had no idea where we would end up!
From what we could tell from our research, we knew that a big part of Adventure Hunt was completing random activities, like hula-hooping or throwing a football. Because we didn’t know what to expect, the night before the hunt began we packed lunches and a bunch of random things we had at the house. Luckily we did this because we needed a few of those things throughout the competition!
The morning started out with Adventure Hunt providing us a list of activities that we needed to complete before we could start the scavenger hunt portion. We documented our “checking off” of these items by taking pictures/videos of us with our Adventure Hunt bags and uploading the “proof” to Instagram. The activities turned out to be much harder than we initially thought because the ones that seemed “easy” took a LONG time to complete. Who would have thought climbing a palm tree or shooting hoops wouldn’t be quick?!
We were having a blast and then our friends started tracking us on Instagram and the hunt got so much MORE exciting. Friends were reaching out cheering us on from the comfort of their own homes while they sipped their coffee and caught up on social media, meanwhile Joffrey and I were getting our asses handed to us by the City Beautiful. Others were confused and asking us what shenanigans we were up to this time (with us you just never know). I don’t blame them, since we were screaming “Adventure Hunt” at the camera and doing a bunch of random things (we had a good laugh before uploading a few of the videos).
Once we finished our activities, we started getting clues that lead us to locations all around Orlando. With our friends and family cheering us on, we continued to drive/run from place to place in search of the item described in the clue. Each time we found the item, the next clue popped up in the app and we were off to the next location (but not before we snapped a few more pictures with random things in the area)!
At some points we knew the vicinity of where the clue had to be, but once we got there we couldn’t pinpoint the exact location. So I guess you could say we were “lost” and if you know us that doesn’t surprise you.
In the end we came in 36th place out of 213 teams (so we had a chance).
It took the winning team 4 hours and 2 minutes to find the treasure, which was much faster than our time, but we aren’t quitters so we kept going until we made it to our final destination. We had a great time and barely fought (mostly because we were communicating well and we were too exhausted), but most of all we FINALLY MADE IT!
The down and dirty of it all…
You and your teammate(s) post pictures/videos of your team completing tasks selected from a list provided by Adventure Hunt and solving clues to figure out your next stop on the scavenger hunt, as fast as you can. This is a must do for couples and best friends! So much so that we are planning to check out the Fun Hunts (hunts created to be used any time, there isn’t a treasure, but that isn’t a deal breaker for us). To see when/where the next Treasure Hunt takes place go to https://adventurehunt.com and look under the pre-made scavenger hunts heading. And if the treasure doesn’t interest you, check out the Fun Hunts!
Memorable Moments:
Christine‘s
- Joffrey trying to climb the palm tree and only getting two feet off the ground
- Joffrey doing a cannonball instead of a belly flop because he got confused
- Running around town laughing and making memories
Joffrey‘s
- Christine being denied a kiss on the cheek from a stranger because the guy had a girlfriend
- Christine’s lack of leapfrog skills
- Eating baby food fed to me by a stranger
No Regrets! (except for maybe…)
- Underestimating the time it took to complete some of the activities
- Joffrey thinking we didn’t stand a chance and not going all out at first
- Not encouraging more of our friends to join in on the fun
Where will your next adventure take you?
