Everyone that knows me, knows I LOVE ice cream. So when the Museum of Ice Cream was less than two hours away, Joffrey knew he had to take me. He bought tickets months in advance, just to ensure we would be able to go (this is pretty big on his part because he really isn’t a planner).
Fast forward to one week before we are supposed to go to the Museum of Ice Cream…I break my toe (and by break I don’t mean I bumped it on something and it hurt for a few days. It was a break that required a doctor’s visit and a boot!) and our plans of going to the Museum of Ice Cream are in jeopardy. During my follow up doctor’s appointment, the doctor tells me everything looks great and I can start walking around. Thank goodness, right? Wrong!
Doctor: Your toe is healing nicely and you can start putting pressure on it by walking around.
Me: Great, we are planning to go to an exhibit this weekend!
Doctor: (looking at me like I had two heads) Well, you shouldn’t be walking on it that much.
Me: (blank stare, screaming inside Nooooooooo!). Okay, I won’t.
That day I immediately went to a medical rental store and tried out one of those scooters you kneel on. Let’s just say that didn’t go so well. I am waaaaay too clumsy to operate that thing! So I ended up with the next best thing, although Joffrey wouldn’t agree.
That’s right, I rented a wheelchair and Joffrey pushed me around the museum all day! Of course, I occasionally got up to take a picture or two, nothing was going to stop me.
When we got inside we were greeted with LOTS of hot pink and very friendly people! While we waited in line, there were interesting tidbits about the museum and ice cream to read (apparently George Washington spent $200 in one day on ice cream, which is equivalent to $5k today!).
It was finally time for the sprinkle pool… this where the magic happens! If I could have run and jumped (this is strictly forbidden, my toe wasn’t the only thing holding me back) into the pool I would have!
You would think the eating ice cream part of the museum would be my favorite, right? No, the Sprinkle Pool was hands down my favorite, although I would have loved to have had more time in it (they let a specific number of people in at a time and then each group has a short period of time in the “pool”). I would imagine on slower days (if that even exists) time in the “pool” may be longer.
Why was the sprinkle pool my favorite? Well I’ve always wanted a giant ball pit (you know the ones kids play and who knows what else in) at my house. This is very similar to that, but in my opinion so much better because they are so much smaller (which can be a bad thing, but I’ll tell you more about that later).
For the rest of our colorful and lighthearted journey, we were given yummy treats in themed rooms that matched with the type of ice cream being served in each room. This was a pleasant surprise because we went into this experience thinking we would just be sampling different flavors of ice cream, not different types! I won’t go into too much detail here because I don’t want to ruin it for you when you go, but there are pictures below for those of you curious.
A cute gift shop was the last stop before exiting the colorful world of ice cream. Walking back (or in my case being pushed back) to the car, I realized I was a little bummed for the experience to be over. At the museum, I was in my happy place surrounded by SO MUCH ice cream! But, like all good things, this had to come to an end eventually.
We’ve previously mentioned that we try to visit a new brewery every time we are somewhere new and Miami was no different. Before heading home, we decided to go check out Veza Sur. The beer and the vibe of this place was just what we needed after an afternoon of eating ice cream, but that isn’t the highlight of this portion of the story.
Now this is where our day gets interesting….eventually Joff had to use the restroom and when he came back he had an amused look on his face.
Me: Why do you look like that?
Joff: You’ll never believe what happened in the bathroom. I found sprinkles everywhere!
Me: Everywhere?
Joff: Everywhere!
Now hearing this I of course had to go to the bathroom right away and I found sprinkles EVERYWHERE as well. That continued on the car ride home and even a year later we were still finding sprinkles in our house and in our cars, but it was worth it!
The down and dirty of it all….
We had a great time and would do it all over again! It would also be fun to go with a group of friends who are ice cream lovers as well! When we visited the Museum of Ice Cream it was located in Miami, FL, but that location is no longer open. We suggest going directly to their website to see if there is a location near you (https://www.museumoficecream.com).
No Regrets! (except for maybe…)
- Breaking my toe the week before
- Not being there when Joffrey first found all of the sprinkles in his pants
Where will your next adventure take you?
